Book Review: The Wrong Man by Kate White

Members of the Vise Library were selected to review The Wrong Man.  We received a copy of Kate White's book for an honest review.

About the book:

New York Times bestselling author of Eyes on You and The Sixes delivers a compelling thriller of mistaken identity and psychological suspense about an accomplished career woman who thinks she’s met the man of her dreams—but instead he turns out to be her worst nightmare.
Bold and adventurous in her work as one of Manhattan’s hottest interior decorators, Kit Finn couldn’t be tamer in her personal life. So, while on vacation in the Florida Keys, Kit resolves to do something risky for once. Flirting with Matt Healy—the rugged stranger she literally bumps into at her hotel—is one thing. Going back to his room after their date is another.
Instead, Matt offers to cook her dinner when they’re both back in the city. But when Kit arrives at his luxury apartment ready for the date of a lifetime, who is the man who opens the door?
Kit’s usually so good at reading people. How could she have been taken in by the deceptions of a con man? And why has he targeted her? Piece by piece, Kit realizes that this treachery goes a lot deeper, and gets a lot deadlier. Now the only way out is to expose the vicious puppet master who’s turned her life upside-down.
Adrenaline-charged and filled with harrowing twists at every turn, The Wrong Man will leave readers guessing until the final page.
Kit is on a business and work trip to Florida.  While she is there she runs into a guy named Matt.  They eventually have dinner and they both realize they have a connection.  They both live in New York and Matt asks her to dinner back in the city.  This is were the book is turned on its axis.  When Kit shows up to Matt's apartment for their dinner date, the man she was with in Florida is not the man that answers the door.  The man that answers the door claims to be the real Matt.  There are so many twists and turns to this book that it is hard to keep up.  Kit has to sort through what is real and who is really the one telling the lies.  There are murders, crazy ex-girlfriends, and insider trading involved.  This book will keeping you guessing until the end. About the author:

Kate White is the New York Times bestselling author of ten works of fiction--six Bailey Weggins mysteries (including So Pretty It Hurts and If Looks Could Kill), and four suspense novels: Eyes on You, The Sixes, Hush, and the upcoming The Wrong Man (June 2015). She is also the editor of The Mystery Writers of America Cookbook, which will be published in March of this year.

Kate's writer's eye has been described by the New York Times as "scathingly observant." The Los Angeles Times says of Kate's work: "It's like devouring a box of chocolates!" Publisher's Weekly recent review of her most recent book, Eyes on You, called it "timely and engaging," adding that "it's [White's] devious mind that puts the thrill in this thriller." Her books have been published in 18 countries. Romantic Times said: "The surprise begins almost instantaneously. Not only is the lead character immensely relatable, but the mystery surrounding whoever is trying to sabotage her holds up until the very end and the culprit is a complete surprise."

For 14 years, Kate was the editor in chief of Cosmopolitan magazine, taking it to number one on newsstands and keeping it there. Though she loved the job (and the Cosmo beauty closet!), she decided to leave in late 2013 to work full time as an author, a long-time dream of hers.

Like many mystery writers, Kate fell in love with the genre after reading her first Nancy Drew book, The Secret of Redgate Farm, and she still admires those cliffhanger endings created by "Carolyn Keene."

She is married and the mother of two children. She once had her young daughter stalk her through the woods so she could better describe the sounds of someone being followed.

Kate is also the author of several hugely popular career books, including I Shouldn't Be Telling You This: How to Ask for the Money, Snag the Promotion, and Create the Career You Deserve, and Why Good Girls Don't Get Ahead but Gutsy Girls Do.
