Fall Reading Challenge 2014: Rebels by Jill Williamson #FRC2014

This fall, members of the Vise Library are going back to school by participating in a Fall Reading Challenge. We have received copies of several books from publishers for honest reviews. We hope that you enjoy these reviews (and books)!

The book for our Advanced Dystopian Studies class is Rebels by Jill Williamson.

About the book:

The Safe Lands have long kept the true meaning of Liberation secret from their people. But after being sentenced to Liberation themselves, Mason and Omar soon discover the truth.

Levi watched his brothers’ public sentencing and tries to hold out hope they are still alive, He is forced to focus his attention elsewhere, however, when his new wife, Jemma, is captured and made the Safe Lands’ newest Queen. His only choice to save Jemma may be to take up Omar’s old role of undercover vigilante, leading the rebels in their quest to overthrow the government. But will Levi’s new role be enough?

Meanwhile, Jemma’s sister, Shaylinn, is ready to give birth to the “Safe Lands’” children … but not even Ciddah is sure they can be delivered safely in the midst of a rebellion. And Mason must face the fact Omar’s illness could be fatal.

If they can all unite their efforts, together they may be able to expose the Safe Lands’ lies to the people. But if they fail, they will all surely die.

So before you read this book (which you should!) make sure to read the first two books in this series (Captives and Outcasts).  If you don't, it will take some time to get caught up on what has been happening in the Safe Lands series.  There are quite a few characters in this book, so again I recommend to read the first two books in the series before checking this book out!  This book is very suspenseful and entertaining.  There is a "liberation" looming from previous books and this book answers all of those questions.  I had not read the first two books, so I am not sure what other readers were expecting, but I was certainly caught off guard!

This book is a very fun dystopia type novel.  It had a lot of angst and action to it.  The characters are fun to read about and you realize that people can be imperfect, but still be good.  Everyone experiences a different lesson such as addiction, heartbreak and lust.  Which, honestly those happen in everyday life to people.  I think a lot of people can learn something from this book and have it be enjoyable at the same time!  For fans of this series, I feel like it is a very satisfying (but bittersweet ending) to a great series!
